I think my self portraits show a more shy side of myself because it's easier for me to take the pictures than it is to get my pictures taken

Portraits

This is my friends Kayla, Lauren and Paige. The pictures of Kayla were taken (mostly candid) in a Jamba Juice one day after school, the one of Lauren was taken at a high school dance team competition a few weeks ago and the one of Paige was taken before a school football game. I chose them to be my "models" because their faces have lots of expression and they aren't camera shy.

How would you define beauty in photography?

I find a candid photo of someone's bad hair day or a girl crying because her boyfriend broke up with her more beautiful than a posed photograph. I like a photo to have an aspect of realness thats relatable, rather than a photo of a photoshoped model.

What are the characteristics of  photographic beauty?

-real
-bright
-fun
-intruiging

Can something ugly be photographed and be considered beauty?

Yes, definitely. Everything has some aspect of beauty in it, you just have to find the right angle that makes it, truly, stand out.
