Last Day Reflections

1. What did you learn about photography that you didn't know before?

I learned that there are many different types and areas of photography. Fil and digital were, really, the only types of photography i was familiar with but i've really broadened my knowledge of photography. Pin hole photography fascinates me the most, i find it amazing that you can make a camera out of, virtually, anything. Photography, also, taught me that light is what really makes an image.

2. What did you learn about yourself this semester?

I find that i view things differently from others and that has helped me a lot this semester. I think i'm stronger with things like photoshop or editing a picture than i am taking one, however, i did enjoy doing macro photography. The portrait project and some other projects, like so, were harder for me, as i would much rather be behind the lens than in front of it.

3. What do you wish we had done that we did not?

I do wish that we were given more freedom when it came to what we were photographing. Though we were allowed to photograph whatever we liked in projects such as the blur or macro, I feel like I would've liked to photograph 36 photos of things i find unique or even a field but from my point of view...if that makes sense.

4. What was your struggle?

I struggled, a lot, with finding the right lighting to make sure the picture was even or taking enough photos. I find it hard to, for example, take however many photos of myself, as it gets really tedious for me. It's easier to take pictures of a million different things than to focus on one object or person so it was, definitely, a challenge.

5. What did you conquer?

I discovered a lot of new things this semester and i think my photos came out better than i would've expected. I, also, understand better how to develop a film photograph and the process each photo goes through, wich was harder for me to do early in the year.

6. Hows, Whys, What fors?

I took most of my photos using a digital camera. Most of the people i shot were very animated and used lots of facial expression which is why i chose to photograph them. The pictures of landscape (macro) were things that i found interesting and intriguing. I feel like plants and other things live in their own world and the photographs give us a glimpse into that.

Light Project

During the light project, i noticed how much of a difference the angle of the light could make. For instance, in one of my photos, the lighting makes my eyes look completely black and demonish. The lighting from below gave off the air that i was being consumed by the dark, instead of finding the light. However, it was hard to find the correct lighting for the silhouettes or to get lighting that allowed me to be completely washed out.
